A Look Back at April with Benton Harbor Charter School Academy

April here at Benton Harbor Charter School Academy has been full of fun happenings! ICYMI, see below all the fun things from this month:

First, our school has started new foreign language program where a small group of students are learning to read and write Swahili. As Principal Smith said, “Our hope is to bring them all the opportunities possible to be well rounded students. Our student population is primarily African American, and being that Swahili is the largest spoken language in Africa, it’s a great opportunity for those students to connect to their own heritage.”

Another big theme of this month is Nature, and with Earth Day just around the corner, Ms.Truax’s third grade class focused on nature by digging up and recreating fossils in the classroom. Not only were they eager to learn about fossils, they also spent an entire week learning about plant growth. Thanks to Mr. K, the students made their own planters with seeds, potting soil, and little containers fit to be buried around the school.

The last thing we wish to highlight this month is our 2022 BHCSA Track Team. Their first track meet was earlier this month and we are so proud of each and every member on the team. The meet saw several Bobcats placing in their events, with first place finishes in shot put and the 100 meter dash, and other placements in both shot put and the 100 meter dash, as well as the 70 meter dash and the 4×100 meter relay. Again, we are incredibly proud of everyone who participated and look forward to more first places as we get farther into the season.

April means that the school year is almost complete. As we continue to close out a monumental year at our school, we hope that every member of our community is as excited as we are. There is no shortage of happenings with our Bobcats, and keep an eye out on our social media to see what else we’ve got planned!
