Benton Harbor Charter School Academy is celebrating Black History Month in style this February with a spirit week, a special podcast featuring our young scholars, a Black Excellence Expo and much more! This month is a yearly celebration recognizing African Americans’ important role in the history of this nation, and we know that our students are taking important lessons away from these commemorations.
Our celebrations started on the first day of the month with our middle school students producing a Black History Month podcast during their elective class. We love watching them work together to make something both impactful and meaningful to the Bobcat community.
Our celebration of Black History Month continued with our spirit week observance, with days dedicated to dressing as: students’ favorite African-American athlete, Black Excellence day, throwback thursday and finally blackout day. This was hosted in combination with our Black Excellence Expo on the 29th with local businesses gathering at our school to sell and show off their merchandise and skills. Vendors attended to showcase local African-American businesses and show what Black Excellence looks like in the Benton Harbor community.
This month was an incredible celebration of African-American history at Benton Harbor Charter School Academy, and we are so grateful for every member of our community who helped to commemorate this important time. As we prepare for the final-stretch of the school year we will continue to look back on this February fondly, and are excited to finish strong.
