Hip Hip Hooray! It’s almost Spring Break!

Whatever you have planned for spring break, we hope you have a blast. Whether you are relaxing on a beach in Florida or enjoying a staycation, below is a list of ideas to rejuvenate and refresh over the next week!  Take a walk outside and enjoy the fresh air. Read a book. Meet up with a friend that you haven't seen in a long time. Visit a local museum. Eat at a restaurant that you've always wanted to try. Listen to music that lifts your spirits up.

Benton Harbor Charter School Academy students learn how to code from Whirlpool volunteers

In celebration of Women in IT Week, more than a dozen Whirlpool Corp. employees held coding workshops for students in third and eighth grade. They spent a few hours learning how to code doing various exercises. The end result of the code that they created was animated animals who responded to music. Mentoring for change: Bowtie Boys and Sister2Sister programs are thriving at Benton Harbor Charter School Academy

Shouts, praises, and laughter permeate in Benton Harbor Charter School Academy on Fridays. Why? On Fridays, a select group of students participates in new, innovative mentoring programs aimed at developing community in the school. These groups are called BowTie Boys and Sister2Sister. “The goal of these programs is to empower youth through discovery and discussion of history, culture, social problems, and the political forces surrounding them,” said Tim Harris, principal at Benton Harbor Charter School Academy and founder of BowTie Boys and supporter of Sister2Sister. We Received the Early Literacy Grant

Our school received the Early Literacy Grant!! This will help provide us with classroom materials, books and professional development tools.

Student Spotlight – Devonte Jones

Today in 5th grade, each student described what they would do if they were rich. While most of them said they would buy fancy clothes and cars, Devonte Jones said he would help give money to families in need, and pay all of their bills. What a caring and mature response from such a young man! The spotlight’s on you, Devonte. Keep shining bright!

Kindergarten Caroling

  To spread holiday cheer our kindergartners went around from class to class singing carols! They had a blast, and brightened everyone's day.
